July Acting Holiday Workshop

THE SHOW THAT FALLS APART

A chaotic comedy packed with outrageous characters, backstage disasters and theatrical mayhem.

ABOUT THE SHOW

An up-and-coming theatre company is preparing to perform what’s supposed to be a serious and ambitious piece of theatre. But on opening night… everything begins to unravel.

Actors miss entrances.
Props break.
Scenery collapses.
Personal drama spills onstage.
Characters appear at the wrong times.
Comedic scenes turn tragic, and tragic scenes disintegrate into laughter.

But somehow… the show must go on.

The result is a fast-paced and extravagant production full of big characters, razor-sharp comedy and theatrical chaos that is outrageously fun for a young cast to bring to life.

Students will work with highly acclaimed, NIDA-trained director TIM HILL (& Juliet, Into The Woods) to rehearse and develop a fully staged production featuring clever ensemble comedy, strong character work and theatrical mayhem.

Characters may include:

  • rival performers battling for the spotlight
  • misunderstood villains
  • washed-up stars trying to stay relevant
  • overconfident directors
  • emotionally dramatic anti-heroes
  • actors desperately trying to save a collapsing production

Younger students will focus on confidence, creativity and energetic ensemble scenes, while older students will explore more sophisticated material involving status, relationships, tension, comedy and layered character development. Students will be grouped according to age and experience level throughout the week.

Every student will perform a featured role within the production, with scenes and characters developed to suit a range of ages and experience levels.
