SPEECH AND COMMUNICATION CLASSES – Students in Years 5-10
Speech and Communication classes prepare students for a communication-savvy world, teaching them to be creative and confident speakers.
Classes aim to empower students with effective communication skills and build their self-esteem through public speaking, eisteddfods, AMEB and Trinity College of London examinations, and other fun, imaginative activities. Small group sessions ensure each student is given the time and attention they need.
Group classes will be held at Brisbane Grammar School on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They are offered before and after school, at morning tea or lunchtime.
If these days don’t suit, but you would still prefer an after-school class, please check the options at Clayfield College (Tuesday afternoon). These are attended by students from a mix of different schools. See the Clayfield College page for more information.Students also have the option of taking classes during school hours on a rotation system that ensures they will not miss the same school lesson from week to week. This system has worked effectively for many years and is a great choice for boys with co-curricular activities in the mornings, lunch hours and after school.

Cost per term: $270.00 (price includes GST) based on an 8-week term (2-4 students per 30-minute class).

This year, Year 10 students will have the option to take an intensive short program to complete their CVCA exam.
The program consists of six private lessons. It requires a strong commitment from the student and a dedicated schedule of preparation and practice. Times for these lessons can be selected online via the Intensive Private Lessons page (under Fees). This course will be offered each term for 4 students only.
Throughout the year, private lesson times will also be offered online on the Private Lessons page (under Fees). However, these will only be available to students already attending weekly group classes, as an opportunity for extra preparation before their exam.
CIA’s spectacular shows are always a highlight of the year, taking students on an exhilarating ride through the process of theatre-making. An intensive rehearsal schedule and tuition from theatre professionals culminates in the opportunity to perform in the beautiful Princess Theatre. Every production is an exciting, hands-on experience for students of all ages, whether they are seasoned performers or new to the stage.
In 2022, we are producing two musicals – Oliver Twist in Semester 1 and Mary Poppins in Semester 2. For these shows, we plan to work with a new formula. There will be a formal audition process to assign parts, followed by 6 intensive rehearsals (3 each term), leading to a performance in the newly restored Princess Theatre at Woolloongabba.
The full rehearsal and performance schedule for 2022 can be found on the Performances page.
Audition packs for Oliver Twist will be handed out early next year.
