CIA Eisteddfod

Celebrating confident speakers, expressive performers and creative young voices.

CIA Eisteddfods provide the opportunity to perform on stage in a supportive and encouraging environment. Students present a piece in front of family and peers, and an experienced adjudicator awards places and provides constructive feedback to every performer.

These friendly competitions are designed to build confidence, develop speaking skills and celebrate creativity. The CIA Eisteddfods are suitable for all experience levels, with many students taking part for the first time.

In our CIA Eisteddfod on Sunday 23rd August, the categories will be:

VERSE – Student performs a poem of their choice.
CHARACTER RECITAL – Student performs a monologue as a chosen character.
DUOLOGUE – Two students perform a short scene together.
PUBLIC SPEAKING – Student presents a short (2 mins max) speech on a topic or issue they are passionate about.

Entrants in Years 1 to 4 can participate in the Verse category.
Entrants in Years 5 to 8 can participate in a maximum of 2 categories of their choice.

Why participate?

Taking part in CIA Eisteddfods helps students:

  • Build confidence performing on stage
  • Strengthen public speaking and presentation skills
  • Develop creativity and performance technique

Suitable pieces will be provided where needed, and all preparation is covered during class time, so students are fully supported. Students are guided step-by-step in class, making this a wonderful first performance experience for many children.

What should entrants wear?

For the Verse and Public Speaking categories, students should wear smart-casual clothing and appropriate shoes (no thongs/flip-flops). Hair should be neat and off the face.

For Character Recital and Duologue, students should have some sort of costume for their characters, but keep these simple. Remember to bring any props required.

Entrants do not need to bring copies of their pieces—just make sure they are memorised well.
